The couple wanted to create a quiet place to exercise for people who want to start their fitness journey without the pressures of working out in front of regular gymgoers.

Twelve top gyms have made Warrington’s list in the latest Best of 2024 and Ryfields Gym has come out on top to make it a hat-trick of titles.

Paul and Becky Warburton opened Ryfields Gym in Ryfields Village Orford in October 2016.

Paul, 40, said: “We’ve tried to make a gym that works for people who don’t like regular gyms.

“It’s always quiet and there’s plenty of space to practice without looking for equipment.

“It’s easy to ask for help, it’s safe and comfortable and we don’t tolerate rude people at any time of the day or night.

“We also do not lock members with contracts that restrict people.

Paul is a military fitness instructor and running a fitness business is important to him.

He has been in the industry for almost 15 years and ran Warrington Bootcamp for six years before taking over Ryfields.

Becky, 42, who was born and raised in Warrington, said: “Health and fitness are things that everyone should focus on.

“Unfortunately, not everyone is like that.

“Ryfields Gym is here to make it easy for those who choose to start.

“Every gym has something that makes them unique and we all have the right type of customer.

“We’re looking for members who really don’t like big gyms.

“We don’t have scare tools or bodybuilders sitting in the corner.

“We don’t have equipment lines or loud music all day and we don’t have cameras everywhere with influencers filming themselves.

“It’s a small family gym for people who want to start their fitness journey.”

Paul said: “It’s very quiet in Ryfields.

It’s scary to start and feel like you’re going to look stupid in front of a lot of people. “We don’t have that problem.

“Besides the gym, our classes are great.

Becky runs 10 classes each week helping people have fun, exercise and build friendships.

One gym expert said: “It has the best equipment, it’s airy and clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Paul and Becky love the Greatest Fitness Competition run by the Warrington Guardian and this is the third time Ryfields Gym has run it for Warrington’s Best Fitness.

Paul said: “We love this competition.

“This is the third time we are in trouble and we are still talking about our members being happy enough to vote for us.

“We were happy to hear that we have done so.

“It’s amazing to get recognition and it’s exciting that so many new people see us being advertised.

“Obviously, we are very grateful to our members for all their support over the past six years.

“We are delighted to win this award for the third time.”
